Common Hair Restoration FAQs
Getting a hair restoration procedure is a life-changing decision that requires a lot of research and a thorough understanding. This enables the prospective patient to know exactly what it involves and set realistic expectations. With the advancement of medical science, hair restoration treatments are now safer, more effective, natural-looking, and permanent.  If you are planning to get a hair restoration treatment done, here are some FAQs to help you understand the process better and make an informed decision.

Is hair transplant permanent?

Once the hair restoration procedure is completed, the newly transplanted hair should fall out within the first couple of months. Within a few months, you will begin to see new hair growth in a permanent capacity. While it takes around six months to notice significant hair growth, it will take about a year to see the complete results. However, just like your normal hair, your transplanted hair may also thin over time. The lifespan of the hair transplant can be impacted by factors like lifestyle, age, hair type, etc.

Does hair transplant work for me?

Hair transplant procedures are generally more effective and long-lasting as compared to over-the-counter treatment options. Even as the newly transplanted hair falls off within a few weeks, the transplanted hair grows back within 3-4 months. That being said, note that hair transplant procedures do not work for everyone. Transplants are mostly done by extracting hair follicles from existing hair in the donor area. Therefore, a transplant may not work if you suffer from widespread baldness, hair loss caused due to side effects of medication or chemotherapy, or thick scarring on the scalp caused by injuries.

Is the procedure painful?

Presently, hair transplant techniques have advanced manifolds with the help of technology. As a result, hair transplant procedures have become significantly less invasive and painful as compared to the past. Hair restoration procedures are minimally invasive, and unlike other surgeries, the healing process is easy and quick. During the surgery, the surgeon may administer local or general anesthesia, depending on the nature of the surgery. For less-invasive procedures, local anesthesia is preferred, as it is easy, cost-effective, and leads to faster recovery. Hair transplant surgeons numb the areas of your scalp that they work on through local anesthesia. It usually does not cause any complications, and you remain awake throughout the procedure.

How long does the procedure take?

The duration of a hair transplant procedure depends on various factors such as hair type, hair structure, size of the balding area, and the number of grafts that need to be implanted. If the patient’s hair is dense and the balding area is not too large, the procedure may require just one session. If the balding area is widespread and the donor’s hair is weak, it may take up to 3 sessions. A single session can last from 6 to 9 hours.   If you need expert hair fall treatment in Maryland, consult our expert professionals at the Mane Center for Advanced Hair Restoration.
